“What should I get from the store on my way home?” She asked with dinner in mind. 

Pickles, cashews, and soda. 

She laughed at the text. That does not make a meal. 

Then she imagined his expression.

The one where she searched through a catalog in his mind. His eyes stopping on the three items he requested. 

The same three items that were on her plate at a friend’s party all those years ago. 

He made fun of her, saying, “That isn’t real food. Let me take you out to dinner.” 

She slipped some cold cuts and crackers in the cart.

Now they had a real meal.
