Today’s 100 word story is an excerpt from a story in the Sweet Romance Anthology.

Bacchus had wine. Venus had an apple. Mayra made a cherry syrup from the cherries she picked with her own hands to prove her adoration for Victor. When she pitted the cherries, she imagined this would be the recipe that caught Victor’s attention. Of course, he’d take one sip and declare his appreciation of Mayra. After all, who else would take extraordinary measures to make him happy?

As she stood in her mother’s kitchen stirring the pot, Mayra felt the burning in her chest. A still small voice within her said this year would be different.
